OK, admit it – you’ve played words with friends at work. Your not alone. With upwards of 12.5 million users, this fairly new word game for android phones and PC’s has grown by leaps and bounds. Alec Baldwin may have given the game a huge boost when he refused to leave his seat on an American Airlines flight during an especially heated game. How many game developers can enjoy free publicity from a movie star?

Words with Friends is essentially Scrabble-on-the-Go since you can play it on your cell phone as well as your PC. You can play with any other FB user or you can start a game with a friend or someone you don’t even know. There’s always someone itching for a challenge. It can spell L O V E for some and it has even been credited with saving a life.

New sites have popped up to help find words starting with or ending with difficult letters, like Z. And if you just want to see if a combination of letters might be a real word, just type it in, hit play, submit and it will tell you if it’s a real word or not. Then of course there are those who will always try to find a way to cheat the game. (Of course the creator of this cheat site added a disclaimer: I created this Words With Friends cheat board as an exploration of artificial intelligence algorithms.) Talk about throwing your money away! I suppose we can all remember when we’ve been frivilous with our money in some way now and then. Gambling – that’s sort of throwing your money away – right? But do we do it in the spirit of art? This is what many brides are doing with the dress that they spent hundreds (sometimes thousands) on for their big day. They are destroying their wedding gown (Trash the Dress) to create a masterpiece they can display on their wall. After all, they just vowed to spend their life together–why put the gown in storage when it will never be worn again?

This photo was sent in by one of our brides who is wearing our Hearts Desire beach wedding sandals. She decided to “trash her dress” under water. It IS a very unique photo – sort of ethereal in a way. The goal of the “Trash the Dress” ritual is to capture unscripted moments in untraditional settings. Underwater shots are just one way photographers are being creative. Some couples may wish to be photographed walking through fields, along railroad tracks or sitting on horseback. Anything that will allow the couple to express how crazy or untraditional they are is the name of the game

Would You Ever Wear a Black Wedding Gown?

This morning, as I perused the latest wedding news, I saw an article about a Fall 2012 wedding trend that was rather strange…black wedding gowns. The article featured “Vera Wang, the unofficial queen bee of the bridal couture world, showing her latest collection as part of New York’s bridal fashion week. Her dresses — artfully witchy-looking frocks made from deconstructed chiffon, silk, tulle and organza in decidedly non-traditional tones like nude and black, were perhaps more funeral than bridal (indeed, there was nary a white dress in sight) — but trust us that her unusual show was one of the most stunning we’ve ever seen, whether in the bridal couture world or beyond.”

I suppose it was inevitable that black could one day be a wedding dress color since colored wedding gowns have been shown in many wedding publications for a few years. But…black? I guess I’m old fashioned. I still feel that a white or cream wedding gown is what looks the most beautiful on a bride. But, if you’re a slave to fashion and being trendy is what’s important to you, planning an evening wedding where the main color is black could be very stylish and classy. Evening weddings have their own appeal. I could definitely see a very upscale, big city evening wedding in New York city in one of the posh, luxurious hotels. Female guests would wear their “little black dress” and male guests in black suits. Adding red as your accent color with red bridesmaid dresses, red flowers and red reception decor – could actually be quite beautiful.
