….just don’t go together. Sounds like that should be a song but it’s so true. While outdoor weddings are truly lovely, there’s nothing too prettyabout your wedding veil blowing in your face. And it’s bad enough that this could happen as you say your vows, it can also happen during the picture-taking session.
Now there’s a solution to having to hold down your veil and it’s called Veil Weights. Created by Southern California Wedding Planner, Jill Watson, these beautiful pieces of magnetic jewelry can be easily attached to a bride’s veil, thus keeping those veils where they were meant to be. After coordinating many weddings where windy conditions caused her brides’ veil to blow here and there, disrupting the ceremony and videos, Jill decided they would be just the solution to a frequent situation at beach weddings. Jill notes that a veil will still have movement but they will keep it from blowing out of control.
The weights come in a package of 6 in four styles – Swarovski crystal in an oval or round shape or Mother of Pearl in oval or round shapes. Since they are magnetic they attach easily to the bottom of a veil. Instructions come with every set and after the wedding you can use them as magnets to hang up your beautiful wedding photos (the one’s where your veil is right where it should be).

OK, admit it – you’ve played words with friends at work. Your not alone. With upwards of 12.5 million users, this fairly new word game for android phones and PC’s has grown by leaps and bounds. Alec Baldwin may have given the game a huge boost when he refused to leave his seat on an American Airlines flight during an especially heated game. How many game developers can enjoy free publicity from a movie star?
Words with Friends is essentially Scrabble-on-the-Go since you can play it on your cell phone as well as your PC. You can play with any other FB user or you can start a game with a friend or someone you don’t even know. There’s always someone itching for a challenge. It can spell L O V E for some and it has even been credited with saving a life.
New sites have popped up to help find words starting with or ending with difficult letters, like Z. And if you just want to see if a combination of letters might be a real word, just type it in, hit play, submit and it will tell you if it’s a real word or not. Then of course there are those who will always try to find a way to cheat the game. (Of course the creator of this cheat site added a disclaimer: I created this Words With Friends cheat board as an exploration of artificial intelligence algorithms.) So of course it’s OK because it’s just an exploration. If you’re REALLY good at this game, there are even tournament sites to show off your word-building talents!

A change (or is that a chill?) in the air
Do you feel it….that little nip in the air? By far, Autumn is my very favorite season. By the time it arrives, I’m ready for cooler air and for summer heat to fade away. Now I can start baking and using the crock pot, take trips up to our cabin in Mt. Laguna and enjoy a warm, crackling fire that smells SO good! In San Diego we welcome the change and I never thought I would say this but a rainy day actually sounds nice.
This is the time of year when we can slow down a bit and spend time creating new barefoot sandal designs. We can take a look back at our summer sales and see which designs sold best. And we can look ahead to the coming holiday season with ideas on jewelry designs we can have ready for holiday shoppers. It’s not too early to think about gifts. Jewelry is a gift any woman would love. Do you know anyone planning a cruise to a tropical location? Maybe a friend is having a destination beach wedding. When the snow flies, are YOU going to fly off to Jamaica to escape the chill?
Few are aware that my sister Pat is our bracelet and earring designer! She’s also a hairdresser extraordinaire and the customers of Anthony’s Hair Concepts in Des Moines, Iowa are the only ones who get to see all the beautiful products she makes and sells there. If she didn’t sell them so quickly we would post them on our site. She makes them, brings them to the salon and when she ‘s done for the day they’re gone! Often she’ll have two customers want the same bracelet she has only one of. She takes many custom orders and she plans to be pretty busy in the next few months!
