You have dreamt your entire life of a beautiful wedding on the beach in Hawaii. The gentle breeze from the ocean, the sound of the crashing waves, the incredible tropical foliage that surrounds you.
Then the big day arrives. Your friends and family have flown in from all over, the scene is set, and then in what seems a cruel twist of fate, Mother Nature sees fit to rain on your parade.
This same thing could happen to you whether you have gone to the expense and trouble of planning a destination wedding, or if you have planned a backyard wedding in your own home town. You can’t predict the weather when you are planning your wedding date, but you can prepare for it by having a contingency plan in place in case the weather doesn’t cooperate with your best laid plans.
To start with, make sure you have some contact information for all of the guests planning to attend your Hawaiian wedding. You can put a note on your response card asking guests for a contact number for the day of the wedding or enlist the help of your bridesmaids or mothers to compile a list of the guests and their cell phone numbers so you can get in touch with everyone if you need to.
If you are working with a wedding planner, ask him for recommendations on alternate sites in the event of inclement weather. He might be able to negotiate an indoor room at the hotel where your reception will take place, or he may know how to move you to an area outdoors but covered. His staff may also be able to assist in notifying guests of the change of venue. Another option is to include a phone number for your guests to call on the day of the wedding to confirm the location. You can set it up with a recorded message, or have someone manning the phone the day of the wedding to provide the guests with the necessary information to get to the wedding on time.
For a religious wedding ceremony, discuss alternate sites with the clergy member performing your service. You might be able to use their Church in a pinch if things don’t work out for your outdoor wedding.
It will help alleviate some of the stress of bad weather occurring to spoil your outdoor wedding if you have a plan in place to deal with things. As they say, hope for the best, but plan for the worst. A good contingency plan can help save your beautiful wedding day.
